Find a character's prompting tag, see an available reference portrait, and copy the tag into MonAI. This browser uses the WAI-illustrious character dataset; it is a reference tool, not an image generator.
Search by an English character name or its Chinese alternate name. Character search runs in your browser. The index and reference images are served by this wiki, not requested from Hugging Face as you search. No account, image upload or generation is needed to browse.

Find an anime character
Find a character’s exact prompt tag and an available reference portrait.
All character names (A–Z)
Every name is listed, including characters without a portrait. Scroll or type to jump to a name. Select it to show only that character; press Enter to bring the result into view.
The local character index loads when you search or browse.

¶ How to use the character browser
- Search for a character, or browse the screened preview gallery. Turn off Only characters with reviewed previews to search every name, including entries without a portrait. Character names may include a series or costume variant.
- Prefer a name list? Open All character names (A–Z), scroll to a name such as sailor moon, and select it to see just that character. The list always includes every name, independently of search or preview filtering. Arrow keys and typing work in the list; Enter brings the selected result into view.
- Check the reference portrait when one is available. It shows one possible interpretation, not a guaranteed result.
- Choose Copy character tag. Keep any backslashes in the copied text: they escape parentheses that are part of the character's name.
- If supporting tags are supplied, you can copy the character tag with that guidance instead. These hints help distinguish details such as gender, hair or a non-human character.
- Open MonAI, choose an appropriate anime model, and paste the tag into your prompt. Add the clothing, pose, setting and artistic style you want, then create the image yourself.
¶ An example prompt
Start with the copied character tag and describe the scene, for example:
yor briar, standing, long coat, city street, sunset
The character tag identifies the subject. The remaining tags request a pose, clothing, location and lighting. Read Anime Prompting with Danbooru Tags for more help building a prompt.
¶ Models and preview versions
The upstream Illustrious portraits were generated with WAI-illustrious-SDXL v16. They are pre-generated reference images, not live previews of your prompt. This guide does not generate images or connect to a ComfyUI server.
MonAI's guides cover WAI-illustrious v17, WAI-illustrious v15 and Illustrious XL. A name in this reference does not guarantee that another model or version will recognize it, or reproduce the portrait. Results also depend on the rest of your prompt and generation settings.
For other anime models and techniques, see All About Anime.
¶ Preview availability
Tag lookup and picture availability are separate. Some reference images are withheld after suitability screening; a character's tag can still be copied when no reviewed preview is available. A missing portrait does not mean the character cannot be prompted.
Preview screening is conservative, but please contact MonAI support if a displayed reference needs attention.
